It really isn't about the money...

Life lessons... they seem to repeat the same themes over and over and over again. It's okay with me, since I like what they mean. For instance, on February 23rd I went to the Yeah Baby Expo, hoping to sell 50 baby rag quilts. I didn't sleep well the previous nights prior to the Expo because I kept having the same theme running through my mind and heart each night: the blankets, while everyone loves them, would not sell well at the Expo. No reason given, just that they wouldn't.

On Friday morning, on our way to Sacramento to set up for the Expo and spend the night at Deb's I told Amy, "We need to go into this with a happy attitude. We can't let whether or not we sell things bog us down! Let's just go and have fun together! This could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us, so let's just enjoy it!"

That is exactly what we did. While everyone loved our quilts, we sold a total of four Snuggle Bunny Blankies. I admit I was a little disappointed as I thought about how different I'd have felt had I sold all of them and had that kind of success. Fortunately for me, my family believes in me (there were flowers waiting for me when I arrived home), and I made many great contacts that day. Sometimes, we just have to look at the bright side because it is what gets us through trials... no matter how trivial they seem. Since that time I have found out from others that just about everyone did badly that day. Between the flu, and the weather, they had a dismal showing of people. We had maybe 200 - 300 people walk past our booth, when it was supposed to be in the thousands.

Okay, maybe I sound like I am placating myself and saying, "there, there, it will be okay..." In all actuality I am not! I am happy with what took place, and grateful for the experience! So much so that I am willing to put myself through it again in Modesto this coming May.

Allow me to share a side-story from all of this that has taken place, and has given me great joy, in being able to serve another:

During the Expo we had a contest for someone to win a free Snuggle Bunny Blankie. I was able to get in contact with May, our winner. As we exchanged email back and forth she showed interest in a particular blankie on our website. (www.snugglebunnyblankies.com) Mostly she was attracted to the color scheme of the blue, yellow and purple. As I wrote her back I asked her what her child's theme was for his room, what colors he liked, that sort of thing.

She replied explaining that she had a change of heart, and asked if she could give her free quilt to her nephew rather than her son. She told me some of the themes of his room, and then said she'd like a quilt that represented hope and faith, because he had just come home for the first time from the hospital. He is eleven months old.

Take a minute to let that sink in.

This baby is eleven months old and he has never known anything other than a hospital room. Needless to say, that put a completely different spin on my feelings about this quilt. I did a little research and discovered that blues, yellows, greens, and even purple, would be great color choices because of their meanings.

Along with that it dawned on me that the first blankie she had been drawn to was our "Miracle Baby" blankie. When we purchased that fabric I remember vividly having the feeling that this particular blankie should go to a baby that is considered a miracle. I am happy to report that it now is. May and I have communicated some more and she is looking forward to receiving this blankie for her little nephew. What a blessing for me to be able to give to someone something that will give them some joy and happiness.

It really isn't about the money --- it is about so much more. I am grateful to be a part of this new venture where we can bring some love into the lives of others. I am grateful for the people I meet, their stories, and their examples to me.
