It pours! Man! Does it ever pour!
So, if you read my most recent blog you know that we just, just yesterday, paid over $1,200 to fix our power steering pump! And, as an added bonus we need another $1,000 worth of work done on our car!
So, today, after much prompting from my wonderful husband to go and visit my mom in Sacramento, Amy and I went up to visit her. (and to check out a few fabric stores for the business) When we arrived at her apartment it was nearly 10:30. She had a gleam in her eye and said, "Do you have any plans?" I started to say, "Why, yes, we do..." but thought better of it. Instead I said, "What did you have in mind?" She, with that gleam in her eye, smiled and said, "Do you want to go out to breakfast?" Well, I had eaten my Special K about about two hours earlier and wasn't really hungry at that time. I told her I already ate breakfast, but that if she really wanted to go that if we went to a fabric store first then we could go and eat. She liked that idea.
I scrambled to the phone book to find an IHOP or Denny's around. Thinking I knew where I was going (restaurant wise) we got in the car (I'd say 'hopped', but it is my mom and let's be truthful here.) From there we drove to Joann's and found the fabric I was searching for. Then we decided to go to Cheesecake Factory where my mom could order breakfast food and Amy and I could get whatever we wanted.
After looking at the menu (mom having ordered her hot chocolate) she decided instead to get fish and chips, and we both got a pasta dish. We shared a piece of Oreo Mudslide cheesecake. Amazingly enough we ate the entire thing (which never happens!) (Seriously, it doesn't.)
Mom was getting worn out so it was time to drive her home. It was a little sunny at the time and the car was warm from sitting in the sun, so I did the logical thing and rolled down my window. Big mistake. Now, this probably would have happened no matter where we were, because it's just the way things are going lately, but it happened in Sacramento!
My window would not roll back up. Period. End of discussion. It was broken. SIGH.
We dropped mom off, tried to 'fix' the window ourselves, and instead it went all the way down into the door.
Funny thing about the sun... hmmm, isn't that what inspired me to roll down the window in the first place? Yep! It decided, once my window was broken, to no longer shine for us. Suddenly it looked like a storm was brewing and the air got chillier and --- well, you can just imagine how chilled I was! Here I was driving down I-5 and my hair was going all over the place and it was cold!
(Just a note to add a little much appreciated blessing - it did not rain... Yay for me!)
We drove to Elk Grove and got off on Elk Grove Blvd. Found a Buick dealership and took the car to the service department. (they were very nice and helpful) Soon, we had an estimate, $650 for a new motor and cable (whatever it's called). I got on the phone and called Pat, who gave me our mechanic's number. Found out they would charge the same amount, so we had it fixed.
Do you feel the rain? It's not just a drizzle -- it's pouring! Suddenly our very reliable car is not so much. I'd ask that well known question: "What's next?" but I fear the answer! For now, I am keeping my umbrella handy.
