33...somebody loves me!

On December 1, 1977 Pat drove me and my little '67 beetle bug, Gladys, to the south side of the Provo UT temple. There he asked me to marry him, which is actually a funny story, but I will save that for another time! After answering in the affirmative we began discussing dates (no ring, we were too poor). I had in my oh-so-organized possession a Hallmark calendar which I pulled out and we took a gander at. We thought that it best to give his parents some time to plan since they live in Buffalo, NY, while mine were much closer since they lived in Paradise, CA. So we opted  for a 3 & 1/2 month engagement. As we discussed where we would like to be sealed he wanted Mesa, AZ since that is where his family was sealed. I wanted Los Angeles since that was where my family was sealed. We decided right then and there a compromise was in order. As we considered how far his parents were going to have to travel we opted to be sealed in Provo, figuring we would be living there anyway! (which we weren't - another story, another time)

Just after being sealed outside the Provo temple... a beautiful Spring day!
Back to the date... we chose March 17, 1978 because it was a Friday and we were sure we would be in school and would not be able to take much time off for our wedding and honeymoon. (non existent) Little did we know that we wouldn't even be in school when we got married and would actually be living in California! The joke in our family is that Pat can never forget our anniversary since we were married on St. Patrick's Day. It would be pretty bad if he forgot that we were married on a holiday with his name in it after all! When we set the date neither of us realized that was the day we chose. But it worked, and has worked for us for 33 years now!
The title of my blog is "One Lucky Girl" for a good reason. The reason for that is Pat, and all that has come because of him...our family, our growth in our marriage and in the gospel. Pat has supported me in my roles; as a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend and now a grandma and mom-in-law. He continues to give me strength when I am not at my best, he strives to be understanding, loving and compassionate. True, neither of us are perfect, but we are a work in progress and we know that about each other.
I am One Lucky Girl because I have him.
I love him with all of my heart.
