Today we celebrate Sam's 32nd birthday. I can't believe our baby is 32 years old - my how time flies. I can still remember so much about that time in our life, and was so grateful when Sam finally came into the world!
- Sam was due on February 1, 1979.
- I had been dilated to a 3 for weeks and was so ready for him to come!
- We went to the hospital on the 1st because I was having labor pains. They gave me a shot that would affect labor somehow and said they would see me the following day - well, nine days later there I was.
- We had gone to do our laundry at the wash hut in Provo, and I began feeling like I might be in labor...
- We went home and I made us some tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
- We folded the laundry and I told Pat that perhaps we should get to the hospital!
- When we got there I wouldn't let him bring anything in for me because I didn't believe they would let me stay.
- While in intense labor I felt very little discomfort. They had the monitor on me and my contractions were off the chart, but I was fine.
- They decided, after several hours of labor, that Sam was having difficulties so they needed to do a c-section. Pat began flipping out, I was calm, reassuring him. I received a blessing earlier and knew that everything would be fine.
- After seven hours of labor Sam was born at 1:30 AM, on a Saturday.
- It was a huge blessing that they performed a c-section - the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice.
- He was a big baby - 9 lbs. 6 oz, 21" in length. I was so happy to have him in my arms, finally!
What a blessing Sam has been in our lives, how grateful we are for him and all that he has taught us.
Happy Birthday Sam! We love you.
