Acts of Kindness

'Tis the season to be giving! Sometimes we just aren't sure what we want to do, or can do within our limited budgets or with children. Today on Pinterest I spotted this (pictured above) Christmas gift bag that got my attention. It's from a site I don't frequent, but subscribed to follow their Christmas board, and it took me to a site called, "Lil Light o Mine."

On the site they have a list of 100 ideas for acts of kindness to do for others during this Christmas season. I thought they had several good ideas...honestly, some I would never do myself. If you would like to check it out it is here - http://lillightomine.com/light-em-up-2012.php.

Some of the ideas I liked are:
  • Take a moment to serve those who serve for a living. (Our family enjoyed taking treats to the firestation when the kids were growing up)
  • Mail an actual handwritten letter, or two.
  • Host a baking party (for moms and kids) to encourage everyone to use their goodies to light up the season for others when they depart.
  • Visit with elderly neighbors and find out what you can do to make their holiday special.
  • Have each child write ten reasons why they love each grandparent (could be less for little ones), and give it to them.
  • Sneak attack daddy's office or car armed with special notes or a treat.
  • Babysit for a friend so she can run holiday errands.
  • Swing by your dentist's or doctor's office with treats for the whole gang.
  • When you make dinner one night, make double, share the dinner with another family that could use the help.
  • Find a family who has a loved one serving overseas and thank them in an extraordinary way!
  • Think of someone overworked at the holidays and do something nice for them.
While I love the idea of random acts of kindness, sometimes we just need a nudge of an idea to get us thinking of what we can do to make someone's Christmas season brighter. In doing so, we serve to make ours so much brighter and full of joy.
